I am a College Graduate-Now What?

Graduating college is a big accomplishment. You’ve made sacrifices, you’ve studied hard, you’ve passed tests, and now this higher level of education can help you get a better job.

Many college graduates experience a post-graduating affect. They had a life in college, they had something to do everyday, and they constantly had friends around.  Once college is over, graduates are catapulted into the real world without any type of transition. It is then that they wonder, “what’s next?”

After you graduate college, you don’t have to be stuck. Use one of the following three options to decide what to do next.

  1. You can travel
Sometimes right after college graduation is the only time you’ll really have to do a big travel. If you have ever wanted to backpack through Europe, for example, you may want to do it when you graduate from college.
Shortly after graduation, you are forced into the real world. With the real world comes full-time job responsibilities and maybe even starting a family. If you have aspirations of travel, and you don’t take advantage of it after graduation, you may not have time to do it again. You’ll never get months off work, and you will eventually have a family to support. Traveling now will allow you to see all the places you’ve wanted to visit before life grabs ahold of you.

  2. You can get a job
Many college graduates are eager to get their first real job. After you graduate college, make sure to look into your school’s job placement resources (if there are any). You should also start sending your resume to a bunch of job openings you wish to apply for.

The only way you will find a job is to get your name and your resume out there. Make connections any way you can, and try to apply to a bunch of different positions that interest you. By keeping your options wide open, you have a better chance of receiving an interview.

  3. You can go back to school.
If you have always wanted to get your Master’s degree, you have a better chance of earning it if you start school right away after graduation. The longer you put it off, the less likely you’ll be to go back.

Or maybe you tried to find a job, but after months of trying, you haven’t had much success. Rather than waste more time sending resumes, use this time to go back to school. Having a Master’s degree will look great on your resume, and it allows you to stay out of the real world for a few more years.

Only you know what is the right thing to do after graduating college. You can travel, you can work or you can go back to school. All of these options are great ideas for those right out of college, so decide which of these three sound the best to you, and move forward.
